#9 Mitchell’s report clearing Kavanaugh is worse than a joke
Rachel Mitchell’s report cleared Kavanaugh of Ford’s sexual-assault accusation by using a flawed analysis and by ignoring the most relevant evidence

Abuses of power in plain sight of and ignored by whom? An injustice is worth exposing whenever an abuse of power is visible to anyone with a duty to prevent or to disclose it, who fails to do so. The injustices that most interest me involve purposeful lies that support outcomes that damage the lives of others, even if they appear to be relatively minor.
There would be no reason to tell such a purposeful lie that is minor in its impact. All purposeful lies which support outcomes that damage the lives of others are inherently significant to the liar. At a minimum, they reflect a purpose or willingness to injure others. Such an intention is always newsworthy
Inaction by a party with a duty to prevent or to expose an injustice inherently involves a lie by commission or omission. The motivation for and context of their dishonesty will necessarily be illuminating and newsworthy.
My initial focus is on an injustice that is widely visible to many people and institutions with a duty to expose it – Brett Kavanaugh’s provable guilt of sexually assaulting Christine Blasey Ford and of repeatedly and egregiously lying about it under oath. Inexplicably, the press has not reported either the compelling evidence of his guilt, his blatantly false testimony, or the complicity of the Republicans who voted to confirm him as a Supreme Court justice.
Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation proceedings provide several chances to illustrate the use of opifaction – the process of deriving pivotal conclusions about events from fact-based analyses to identify abuses of power. The first example is identifying definitive proof of Justice Kavanaugh’s guilt of sexually assaulting Dr. Ford and of his related false testimony. A second example is identifying a systematic approach used by the Republicans for rejecting sexual assault allegations against their nominees. They used that approach to deny Dr. Ford’s allegation. A third example is detecting an inexcusable failure by the news media to report on several crucial stories mentioned above.
My initial series of blogs will address the multiple crucial stories about the Kavanaugh proceedings that the press has failed to report. I will also discuss the scope of and motivations for that media failure.

Rachel Mitchell’s report cleared Kavanaugh of Ford’s sexual-assault accusation by using a flawed analysis and by ignoring the most relevant evidence
The proof that Blasey Ford was at the 07/01/92 party with Kavanaugh and Judge makes all of the arguments used to undermine her allegation irrelevant. Virtually all of her recollections about the event where she was assaulted are corroborated by Kavanaugh’s calendar entry. So, the claim that there’s no corroboration for her allegation is dead.
Either Senator Grassley’s summary of the FBI investigation misrepresented that the FBI confirmed “there is no corroboration” of Blasey Ford’s allegation against Kavanaugh OR that description reflected malfeasance by the FBI in its investigation or in its communication of the results of its investigation. Almost all of Blasey Ford’s recollections are corroborated by Kavanaugh’s calendar.
Republicans fixed the rules they admit to applying in evaluating Dr. Ford’s sexual-assault allegation against Kavanaugh. That manipulation was designed to make it as easy as possible to reject victims’ accusations against their nominees. Then they made it even easier to reject victims’ accusations by sneakily requiring evidence beyond-a-reasonable-doubt in order not to confirm Kavanaugh.
REPs conned America into believing there’s no corroboration of Blasey Ford’s sexual-assault accusation against Kavanaugh. That’s the opposite of reality! So, how did they do it? They have a comprehensive systematic approach for rejecting sexual-assault allegations. That approach is misogynistic to its core! Their victims include Blasey Ford and anyone who supports the #metoo movement.
Mr. Benson, your October 1, 2018 article played a critical role in a con job perpetrated on the American public and press by the Republicans. The con involved covering up the fact that Christine Blasey Ford and Brett Kavanaugh were both at the July 1, 1982 house-party where she was sexually assaulted
To “benson” verb: “to make baseless and disingenuous arguments to deprive a sexual-assault victim of redress against a guilty predator.” As in, “Senator Collins bensoned Blasey Ford to justify her vote to confirm guilty Kavanaugh.” Synonym: to “collins.” Bensoning or collinsing a victim supports a miscarriage of justice that adversely impacts the broader #metoo movement.
Republicans confirming provably guilty Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court justice is a historical outrage. They’re willing to subject the country, women, and sexual-assault victims to a grossly unsuitable judge. By approving him despite his evident guilt, they gave the middle finger to the #metoo movement and to women.
The Republicans approved Justice Kavanaugh despite having multiple reasons to know he was likely guilty. They also had multiple reasons to know that Dr. Ford’s testimony is both credible and corroborated. Senator Collins led his dishonest defense, covered up his guilt, and slimed his victim. Now Kavanaugh’s provably guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
